Sinopsis
La Royal Society es un prototipo de Academia Científica en el mundo. Se relata su historia de tres siglos destacando la significación que tuvo en el cultivo de las ciencias experimentales frente a la autoridad de los filósofos antiguos.
Sus altibajos revelan los cambios de la sociedad inglesa y el triunfo de los experimentalistas. Sus presidentes, que constituyen hasta hoy la "élite" científica británica, culminan con Isaac Newton.
Sin apoyar ni rechazar ninguna doctrina, ha luchado por la causa del saber, propiciando la colaboración científica internacional sin distinción de razas o credos.
Synopsis
The Royal Society is a world prototype of a Scientific Academy. Its history of over three centuries is briefly described pointing out its significance in supperting the experimental sciences as opposed to the authory of the ancient philosophers.
Its ups and downs follow the changes in the English society and the sucess of the experimentalists. Its Presidents who are until today the british scientific "elite", culminated with Isaac Newton.
It has fought for the cause of knowlegde without favouring or rejecting any one doctrine, supporting international scientific collaboration without discriminating between races or beliefs.
